Birds Again(Part 2 of 3)

Note/Friendly Warning ::  I will attempt to limit spoilers, unfortunately though they will exist. Read at your own risk. Until I figure out how to add a spoiler tag, we will have to live with page break. You have been warned.

The previous post had lots of background information as I introduced the trilogy, I will cut down on lots of that and do a much higher level recap for the rest of the trilogy. And with that, let's jump right into "Catching Fire" as there is still much to recap after "The Hunger Games".

"Catching Fire" picks up ~6 months after the Hunger Games ended. Rumors of rebellion are whispered. Katniss and Peeta have been fairly stand-offish as they adjust to their new lives in District 12. But,they are shortly thrust together again for their Victory Tour where they tour the other Districts, once again as a reminder of the governments oppression, and have a party in each location all on camera.Katniss is visited by the President, who, in barely subtle terms, convinces her to show the entire nation that she was not attempting to rebel against the government when she and Peeta nearly suicide to end the 74th Hunger Games and instead that she was a love struck kid who made a hasty decision because she was so blinded by her love. Sparks fly in District 11 as she thanks the family of her only ally in the Hunger Games. The family treats her as a hero, giving a salute, before being subdued by the government. Towards the end of the Tour she learns that she failed. Rebellions are beginning in the Districts, although the government hides it.

The 75th Hunger Games are announced, called a Quarter Quell, which will be more special than a normal Hunger Games. The tributes for the 75th Hunger Games will be selected from the current pool of victors, clearly an attempt by the government to get rid of Katniss and Peeta, or at least cripple their love. Haymithch's strategy for them is changed. They will attempt to get rivals for the games. Both Peeta and Katniss make deals with Haymitch to get the other out alive while the requester perishes in the Arena.

Unbeknownst to our heroes, some of the other former Hunger Games winners plan an escape from the Games to join the rebellion, which is based out of District 13, and overthrow the government. The plan succeeds, mostly, as Katniss and few others escape to join the rebels. However, Peeta gets left behind.

At District 13, Gale, an old friend of Katniss's(and the third leg of the stories love triangle) informs Katniss that District 12 was destroyed, bombed, by the Capitol. Only 800 people escaped and made it to the Rebellion in District 13.

Next time on Boudreaux's Lovely Asinine Gospel :: The exciting conclusion to "The Hunger Games", featuring "Mockingjay", and maybe some analysis.
